The Modified Maxi

Maxi's are so comfortable it's a wonder I don't own more than two.  This particular maxi worn today is usually worn with flats and of course, it's a great item to quickly throw on to do errands on the weekend.  However, I wanted to try something a little different and spice it up a bit.  Paired with heels, a second belt, and a temporary draping modification to the maxi in the front.  The end result came out pretty good.  The draping is definitely flattering and something I will be incorporting with my maxi's more often.

Styling Tip
The Modified Maxi:  To achieve this look, all you need is a fairly large pin/brooch.  Start at the middle bottom (the draping can actually be placed at any position on the dress).  Begin to create folds like an accordian of about 1.5 inches and continue folding upward until you have reached your desired top length.  I folded up to about mid thigh.  From here secure the accordian pleats with a pin to hold the pleats in position.  The key is to ensure you stick the pin through each and every pleat.  You could also modify your maxi with two or more drapings or by increasing or decreasing the size of the pleats being as creative as you want.  You're all done!

CAUTION:  I would carefully consider the maxi material prior to temporarily modifying it.  My maxi is cotton, so it's pretty forgiving, but polyester and silk paired with a heavy brooch that will be hanging for short or long lengths of time might damage the fabric.
